The Taqwacores Movie Trailer – Official (HD)

Posted by admin On February - 5 - 2010

This is official trailer for THE TAQWACORES original motion picture (2010). Featuring the song “Blow S*** Up” by The Kominas. The film stars Bobby Naderi, Noureen dewulf, and Dominic Rains. It is based on the novel by Michael Muhammad Knight, and directed by Eyad Zahra. The film world premieres at the 2010 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL. www.punkislam.com Sundance Film Festival Description: Oh, to be young, beautiful, Muslim—and punk rockers! Heres one story of disaffected American youth we havent seen before. Yusef, a straitlaced Pakistani American college student, moves into a house with an unlikely group of Muslim misfits—skaters, skinheads, queers, and a riot grrrl in a burqa—all of whom embrace Taqwacore, the hardcore Muslim punk-rock scene. They may read the Koran and attend the mosque, but they also welcome an anarchic blend of sex, booze, and partying. As Yusef becomes more involved in Taqwacore, he finds his faith and ideology challenged by both this new subculture and his charismatic new friends, who represent different ideas of the Islamic tradition. Adapted from the influential novel by Michael Muhammad Knight (cowriter of the film), The Taqwacores marks the energetic directorial debut of Eyad Zahra, who creates a wholly original spin on the identity narrative and invests the filth and fury of Islamic punk with humor and humanity.

He’s not the good guy because he doesn’t drink or smoke. He’s the good guy, because he’s just the good guy in the film. Most movies have a good guy.

Also, he’s the only one who properly bridges a connection between Islam and a punk subculture.

    Lawl @ Youssef Beytah! :O
From the trailer, the film looks interesting enough to be watched… can’t say much about the story though (haven’t read the book and from what I’ve heard about it from others who have read it, it really isn’t a very smart book) though the direction and everything else looks awesome…

Before even Taqwacore came along, in Karachi (Pakistan) we used to have a punk band during the early to mid 2000s, the band name was Cornhole, and they had issues similar to taqwacore discussed in their music. And yes, they too were a hit live act. Our whole Pakistani underground scene was so better back then.

Just because you don’t drink or smoke doesn’t mean you’re a good guy ..damn you’re so naive .Hey when a stranger pulls in van and says he knows your parents come with me …it’s lie ok.

    Cheers!!!

  13. conscienceking10 says:

The movie isn’t about The Kominas; There is a documentary labeled “Taqwacore: The Birth of Punk Islam” by Omar Majeed that follows them. The Taqwacores movie is a screen version of the novel by Michael Muhammad Knight that helped start the taqx dialogue: he helped people connect with each other, in a way. The book helped inspire The Kominas, but this movie isn’t about them.

you idiots, put it in context
American punks would get executed in the south, its no different!
America has its fundamental areas as well…see the documentary, they actually played in Pakistan…and the locals loved it.
    So YOUR WRONG!

  15. ElZomboFantasma says:

Don’t care, punk movies are often stupid rapes of the culture. Look at SLC.

  16. TrowaStrife1 says:

Uh, excuse me, but obviously you haven’t been up to date with the band that this movie is about/inspired.

    The Kominas

  17. Deepstarr7020 says:

  24. sikandaraftab says:

The book was filthy, degrading, vile, and a hundred other bad things, and it somehow made me (in my opinion) a stronger Muslim with a stronger believe in God. If it didn’t do that for you I can understand that, but I’d also have to say that we probably see religion and belief in different lights, and that’s okay.

If you’re anything close to an orthodox Muslim, you do need a strong stomach for the book and I’ll assume the movie is a slightly toned down version of the book.

  25. annanimal6 says:

I completely agree! And no one else seems to see that!
